beIN Sports Espanol Quick Picks

Jorge Paez Jr. vs. Daniel Sandoval: Sometimes, when one fighter is in decline it actually makes for a better fight.  That could be the case this Saturday on beIN Sports Espanol when Jorge Paez Jr. (39-9-2, 23 KO) takes on Daniel Sandoval (39-4, 36 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds from the junior middleweight division and fans could see plenty of action.  Both Paez and Sandoval have had a high number of professional fights for there age but especially Paez who at 29 has already fought 50 times.  Sandoval is no slouch either, fighting 43 times at only 25 years old but it seems to be Paez who is nearer to the end.  Paez has lost three fights in a row, four of his last five, and in his last 10 fights has gone 4-5-1.  That bodes well for Sandoval who usually handles lesser fighters but struggles against the better ones, which fans saw when he was stopped in three rounds by his best opponent to date, Erickson Lubin.  Sondoval also has a loss to Omar Chavez but in his last 10 fights has gone 8-2 with six knockouts and he has shown a lot of power which could be trouble for Paez who has already been through many tough bouts.  Paez, who is looking to get back on track, fights out of the orthodox stance and has a jab he really only uses as a measuring stick.  Paez does have a thudding right hand  but he also often eats a tremendous amount of leather.  The reason that happens is because he loves to exchange punches from the pocket and he squares up so much that at times he almost looks like he is switching to southpaw.  The left hook of Paez can do damage but since he comes forward without his jab he seems like a much older fighter than his actual age, in part because of all the punches he has taken.  Also, in his most recent fight his body looked soft so look for Sandoval to work the body early.  In this fight Sandoval will have a huge height and reach advantage.  He stands 6-inches taller than Paez and his reach is nearly 8-inches longer.  Sandoval is an orthodox fighter with good power and he should try to use his long jab to keep Paez on the outside and in range of his power punches.  Even though Sandoval isn't an accurate puncher, when he does catch opponents they often go down.  He has a heavy, if not very skilled, right hand and a left hook he catches opponents coming in with.  Since Paez loves to come forward and doesn't really do so behind a jab Sandoval should be able to catch him coming often.  While Paez will probably be dropped in this fight he will make it to the final bell but it will be Sandoval who wins this fight and he will do so with a unanimous decision.

Emanuel Navarrete vs. Francisco Gabriel Pina: Saturday's co-feature on beIN Sports Espanol could end up being a very one-sided fight.  That fight will be between power punching Emanuel Navarrete (18-1, 15 KO) and Francisco Gabriel Pina (14-13-5, 6 KO) and it is scheduled to go 10 rounds from the junior featherweight division.  Navarrete is a 22-year-old power puncher whose only career loss came in 2012, the year he debuted as a professional.  Since that loss he has gone 13-0 with 10 knockouts which doesn't bode well for Pina who has been knocked out five times in his career.  Navarrete fights out of the orthodox stance and likes to work his awkward jab and left hook.  However, he usually never worries about return fire and as he continues to climb the ladder he is going to have serious problems.  Despite not throwing any of his punches very skillfully, they do tend to do damage when they land and Pina is a fighter who doesn't miss many punches.  Pina is also an orthodox fighter but he has never little power and he is there to be hit.  He often completely squares up to opponents, even when walking in but on offense he actually throws his punches better than Navarrete does.  Pina has a pretty nice right hand and on the inside he will bang his left hook to the body but with the way he walks in straight ahead should play right into the hands of Navarrete.  This won't be a pretty fight and fans won't see a very skilled fight but someone has to win and that winner will be Navarrete by the way of seventh round stoppage.
