beIN Sports Espanol Quick Pick

Rivas eats a right hand from Serrano
Yazmin Rivas vs. Nazly Maldonado: On Friday night the women will once again grace our television sets as Yazmin Rivas (35-10-1, 10 KO) takes on Nazly Maldonado (5-5, 1 KO).  That fight will headlined a fight card on beIN Sports Espanol and it is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior featherweight division.  This will be a quick turn around for Rivas, who last appeared in the ring in January in a loss to Amanda Serrano.  Rivas is an orthodox fighter who has shown a solid jab throughout her career.  To go along with that jab she also has a nice overhand right she like to use on the inside.  Rivas does her best work from the inside and she also has a nice left hook to the body.  Perhaps Rivas' best attribute is her experience.  She turned pro in 2001 at just 13 years old and has been busy ever since.  Meanwhile, Maldonado turned pro in 2007 but only has 10 career fights because she was inactive in 2008, 2010, and 2013.  Maldonado is also an orthodox fighter but she has no power to speak of.  Maldonado likes to work behind a busy jab and often follows it up with a straight right hand.  When she gets in the pocket she will also work a left hook to the body but typically she prefers to stay on the outside where she can work her one-two combination.  In this fight Rivas will not only be the more experienced fighter but she will also be the more talented one.  While she won't be the first fighter to knock Maldonado out she will do enough damage to get the wide unanimous decision victory.
