| Felix is a heavy hitting prospect |
Jose Felix Jr. vs. Jonathan Maicelo:
The only fight on Friday night covered by Big Time Boxing will be the one between top prospect Jose Felix Jr. (35-1-1, 27 KO) and Jonathan Maicelo (24-2, 12 KO). That fight will air on UniMas and is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the lightweight division. Felix is only 24 years old so in boxing terms he is still very young. Despite having already had 37 career fights though, Felix still hasn't faced any top tier lightweights. His lone loss came against Bryan Vasquez, who is a good fighter, and that loss may have delayed his advancement but he is currently riding a eight fight win streak which includes five knockouts. If Felix doesn't take that next step up soon fans might start grumbling. As for his fighting style, Felix is an orthodox fighter with good power. Offensively Felix has shown plenty of skills. He likes to work behind a snapping jab and will often follow it with a mean straight right hand. Along with those weapons Felix also has a strong left hook and while he moves pretty well in the ring there is no telling how good he actually is until he faces off against better opposition. The lightweight division has suddenly become one of the deepest in boxing so hopefully Felix starts taking on some of the lower end of the top 10 sooner rather than later. As for Maicelo he is also an orthodox fighter but he lacks the power that Felix has. Maicelo is also 33 years old making him nine years Felix's senior. While Maicelo has a good jab and moves well in the ring he also tends to rely on his athleticism and reflexes a bit too much. That can get him into trouble because he usually hangs his chin out in the open, thinking his reflexes will keep him from getting caught. Maicelo also has a nice overhand right but he doesn't do much with his left hand. Felix, who is younger, bigger, and stronger than Maicelo should be able to impose his physicality on Maicelo and he will win this fight with a seventh round stoppage.
