Nery looks to remain undefeated
Luis Nery vs. Richie Mepranum: This Saturday on beIN Sports Espanol the undefeated Luis Nery (20-0, 14 KO) will take on Richie Mepranum (31-5-1, 8 KO).  Their fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the bantamweight division but it may not last that long.  Nery has good power, especially for such a small fighter and in his five career losses Mepranum has been stopped three times, including his most recent fight, a stoppage loss to Carlos Cuadras.  Nery is a southpaw with quick hands to along with his plus power.  Along with a short right hook Nery is also skilled with his left hand and he puts his punches together well.  Mepranum also happens to be a southpaw but he has absolutely no power to speak of so he will be at a big disadvantage against Nery in the power department.  Where Mepranum has the advantage is in experience.  He has fought the likes of Hernan "Tyson" Marquez, Juan Francisco Estrada, and Carlos Cuadras, all better opponents than anyone Nery has ever faced.  However, Mepranum hasn't always done well in those step up fights and against those opponents he has gone 1-3, beating Marquez in their first fight but losing the rematch.  Surprisingly for a fighter with such little power Mepranum doesn't make use of a quality jab.  Instead he relies on a pretty good right hook and an alright straight left hand to get by.  The problem for Mepranum is that he doesn't do well against aggressive fighters and he doesn't move well in the ring.  Because Nery won't have to worry about return fire from Mepranum he should be even more aggressive than usual looking for the knockout and that won't be a good thing for Mepranum.  This fight won't last long as Nery stops Mepranum in the sixth round.
