Estrella TV Quick Pick

Michael Perez vs. Petr Petrov: While this weekend will certainly be a busy one for boxing that doesn't mean that there are many big fights.  Most of the fights happening this weekend don't involve big name fighters and while Michael Perez (24-1-2, 11 KO) and Petr Petrov (37-4-2, 18 KO) aren't the most well known names in the sport they are certainly fighters fans have seen numerous times.  Their fight, which will take place on Friday and could be the best of the weekend, is scheduled to go 12 rounds on Estrella TV and it will be a WBA lightweight title eliminator.  Perez is an orthodox fighter with a very conventional fighting style.  Along with a stiff jab Perez also has a nice looking straight right hand but he lacks top end power.  Perez is the type of fighter who, if he knocks you out, does so from an accumulation of punches.  With his other weapons Perez also has a strong left hook and he always does a nice job of putting in work to the body.  Petrov is a fighter best known for winning ESPN's 2014 Boxcino Lightweight Tournament when he stopped Fernando Carcamo.  When it comes to experience Petrov has the advantage, especially because he has fought the higher level of opposition as a pro.  Petrov is also an orthodox fighter and his power is very similar to Perez's.  Along with a stiff jab and an accurate straight right hand, Petrov will also throw an overhand right that can do damage.  The Russian Petrov also has a nice left hook and he has the ability to box from the outside because of his fast hands or trade punches in the pocket.  This should be a very good fight that is pretty even on paper.  Perez would make a statement with a win since Petrov will be one of the best opponents he's faced.  However, Petrov has beaten fighters like Perez before and he will do it again on Friday with a split decision win.
