CBS Sports Quick Pick

Dusty Hernandez-Harrison vs. Thomas Lamanna: When one of the top fighters in the sport gets back in the ring it usually means a very busy week for boxing.  Not only will that event garner a lot of attention but other fight cards usually pop up earlier in the week.  With Saul "Canelo" Alvarez fighting this Saturday the other cards are piling up.  The week's first card was on Tuesday and on Thursday night there will be a card on CBS Sports.  That card will be headlined by 10-round bout in the welterweight division as Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (29-0-1, 16 KO) takes on Thomas Lamanna (21-1, 9 KO).  Hernandez-Harrison really needs to look good in this fight because while he does hold an undefeated record most of those wins have come against sub par competition.  Also, his last fight which was against Mike Dallas Jr. ended in a draw but many fans felt as thought Dallas won that fight.  Hernandez-Harrison is a lean, lanky fighter who works out of the orthodox stance.  He likes to work behind his long jab and will bring a nice straight right hand behind it.  Another thing the young 22-year-old fighter likes to do is rough things up in the pocket.  Hernandez-Harrison has had a lot of fights for someone so young but his team hasn't done a great job of progressing him.  Many fighters build up their records against lesser opponents, the trick is mixing in a few step up fights on the way up so you can measure where your fighter is.  The team of Hernandez-Harrison has never really done that and his career hasn't been helped by signing with Roc Nation Sports whose foray into the boxing world has to be viewed as a flop for now.  Lamanna hasn't faced any great opponents either outside of one fight against Antoine Douglas who may not be the prospect many people thought he was.  Lamanna is also an orthodox fighter and he too likes to work behind a jab out of the orthodox stance.  Behind that jab Lamanna will bring a solid right hand but he carries less power than Hernandez-Harrison does.  One advantage Lamanna will have is his height but that may be his only advantage.  This fight should be a pretty even one but Lamanna is almost a poor man's version of Hernandez-Harrison who isn't exactly a rich man in this scenario.  Still, Hernandez-Harrison will do enough in this fight to get the unanimous decision win.
