CBS Sports Quick Pick

Emmanuel Robles vs. Steve Claggett: When it comes to boxing on CBS Sports it often feels like the network gets everyone else's leftovers.  Meaning they don't usually have big names in action and during a busy weekend they often air the fight you don't mind missing.  That will be the case this Friday when Emmanuel Robles (15-0-1, 5 KO) takes on Steve Claggett (23-4-1, 16 KO).  Their fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division.  Robles fight out of the southpaw stance and while it is impressive that he has never lost a fight it becomes decidedly less impressive when you look at the opponents he has faced.  Robles likes to work behind a quick jab and right hook and while he also has a big left hand it often comes in wild.  Wild would be a good way to describe Robles who often wings punches from the pocket.  Meanwhile Claggett plies his trade out of the orthodox stance and he has much more pop on his punches than the light hitting Robles does.  While Claggett has a decent jab he will often plow forward with his earmuffs on instead of coming in behind the jab.  He does have a solid left hook and right hand and like Robles he won't shy away from going to work in the pocket.  The difference in this fight could be work rate.  Claggett is clearly the bigger puncher but Robles is the busier puncher and if he consistently lets his hands go on the inside he could win this fight on the scorecards.  This fight won't be pretty and it won't be very impressive but Robles will leave the ring happy as he comes away with the close unanimous decision victory.
