Weekend Wrap-Up

  • It was another week with limited action in the world of boxing.  The highest profile card of the week was a PBC card on ESPN.  That card was headlined by a bout between Mario Barrios and Devis Boschiero.  Barrios is looked at as a quality prospect with a bright future but he and Boschiero turned in a complete stinker on Saturday night.  The undersized Boschiero didn't do much at all and seemed content to go the distance.  Meanwhile Barrios simply controlled Boschiero with his jab and reach advantage but never really let his hands go or went in for the kill.  Fans booed throughout the fight and even though Barrios got the wide unanimous decision win many fans won't be eager to see him in the ring again.

  • One of the more exciting fights of the weekend took place on beIN Sports Espanol on Saturday night.  That fight took place between Albert Pagara and Cesar Juarez.  Juarez earned many fans when he took on Nonito Donaire and turned in one of the best fights of 2015.  Well Juarez did it again on Saturday against Pagara.  Pagara came into the fight with a perfect record but he didn't leave with one.  Despite being dropped in the very first round Juarez came back and knocked Pagara out in the eighth round with a strong barrage of punches.

  • The action started last week on Friday night on Telemundo.  The main event of that fight pitted Antonio Moran up against Juan Pablo Sanchez.  The two fighters waged a fun, close fight and it could have gone either way when the scores were announced.  However, in the end it went the way of Moran who won via unanimous decision.
