ShoBox: The New Generation Quick Pick

Lopez will look to remain undefeated on Friday
Adam Lopez vs. Roman Reynoso: While many fans are looking ahead to Saturday's HBO PPV card headlined by Terence Crawford, there are fights on Friday night that will act as its appetizer.  Those fights, on Showtime, will be another edition of the network's ShoBox: The New Generation.  The main event of that card will be a 10-round bout in the bantamweight division between Adam Lopez (15-0, 7 KO) and Roman Reynoso (18-1-1, 7 KO).  With only one loss between them and both fighters being a young 25 years old, this should be a competitive fight.  Neither fighter has faced anyone truly of note and Friday will be a big opportunity for both men.  Lopez is a sharp puncher out of the orthodox stance and while he doesn't have top end power he is a skilled puncher.  The young fighter has a nice jab and straight right hand that allow him to fins success from the outside but he also puts in good work at close range.  On the inside Lopez shows a very impressive and very short left hook along with a stinging right hand.  Reynoso is also a young orthodox fighter without much power but that is pretty much where the comparisons end.  At times Reynoso will flash a nice jab but too often he lunges forward with it and brings a straight right hand behind it, throwing both punches out of position.  But at times his awkward one-two combinations work in his favor as opponents don't expect to see it.  While Lopez throws very short punches Reynoso throws his power punches wide, especially his left hook.  Lopez will attack the body to varying degrees of success but again when he lets his hands go his punches are wild.  This fight should be a good one for Lopez.  His short, crisp punches should find their target all night, especially if he chooses to sit back and counter the wild attack of Lopez.  As long as he plays it smart Lopez will win this fight with a wide unanimous decision.
