PBC on ESPN Quick Pick

Mario Barrios vs. Devis Boschiero: When ESPN canceled their long running program Friday Night Fights in order to accommodate PBC cards they had to imagine they would consistently be putting on cards featuring big names.  While the network has had a few of those cards too often they have been putting on cards that could have appeared on Friday Night Fights, the only difference is those cards are much fewer and far between.  Such is the case this Saturday when undefeated prospect Mario Barrios (15-0, 8 KO) takes on Italian veteran Devis Boschiero (39-4-1, 21 KO).  That fight, between two fighters many fans have probably never seen before, is scheduled to go 12 rounds and will be an IBF junior lightweight title eliminator.  Barrios is an orthodox fighter with a nice jab.  With that jab he will also throw a sneaky counter left hook and he can also connect with uppercuts.  However, the young 21-year-old Barrios still has plenty of room to improve.  His straight right hand still needs work and he doesn't always protect himself on defense.  If he can build on an already impressive skill set going forward he could make some noise.  As for Boschiero, he is also an orthodox fighter but he is much older than Barrios at 34-years-old.  Also, most of Boschiero's fights have come in his native Italy and that country isn't exactly a hotbed of boxing talent.  Barrios happens to be a very tall junior lightweight, standing at 6-feet.  That will give him a big advantage over the 5-feet 5-inch Boschiero.  Boschiero is the type of fighter who likes to walk straight ahead behind a high guard and wait for his turn to punch.  He does have a decent left hook and right hand that he will work the body with but he rarely jabs and should have a very difficult time getting inside on the much larger Barrios.  In this fight the younger, longer Barrios should be able to control the distance and cruise to a wide unanimous decision victory.
