Jayson Velez vs. Rene Alvarado: On Friday night and now officially the main event on Estrella TV will be a fight between Jayson Velez (23-2-1, 16 KO) and Rene Alvarado (23-7, 16 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior lightweight division and both men are in desperate need of a win as both are coming off back-to-back losses.  Both of Velez's losses were high profile bouts, the first against Ronny Rios and the second against Joseph Diaz.  Meanwhile, Alvarado lost to Andrew Cancio and then Manuel Avila and in his last 10 fights he has gone 5-5 and was knocked out once.  Velez fights out of the orthodox stance and he usually likes to fight from the pocket.  His best punches are his left hook and overhand right and he lands both of them frequently when he can get inside.  As for his jab while it is a solid punch it is one he doesn't use nearly enough.  On defense Velez isn't terrible but he usually eats a lot of counter punches.  Alvarado is a fighter who often finds himself in tough fights.  He works out of the orthodox stance and he has shown a good left hook during his career.  Alvarado also has a decent straight right hand he will bring behind his jab but his left hook is his money punch.  Defensively much like his opponent on Friday Alvarado does take his fair share of punches.  This should be a very close fight and a very entertaining fight.  Because his skills are a little sharper Velez will be able to come away the winner by the way of unanimous decision.
