Telemundo Quick Pick

Rodriguez needs another win
Ricardo Rodriguez vs. David Quijano: While most fight fans are focused on Saturday this week's action will actually begin on Friday night on Telemundo.  That is when Ricardo Rodriguez (13-3, 4 KO) will take on David Quijano (16-5-1, 9 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior bantamweight division.  Neither man can afford another loss but especially Rodriguez who is still young enough to turn his career around.  Rodriguez is an orthodox fighter who has a pretty good jab and straight right hand.  Despite not having any serious power Rodriguez does throw a good looking left hook.  However, if Rodriguez wants to have himself a long and successful career he needs to start stringing some wins together and stop losing to average fighters.  Quijano is only a few years older than Rodriguez but recently his career has fallen off the rails.  In his last five fights he is 2-3 and that includes three losses in a row.  Quijano has the experience advantage against Rodriguez because he has faced much better talent and while both men hold wins over Daniel Lozano, Quijano beat him by the way of unanimous decision while Rodriguez won with a majority decision.  Quijano is also an orthodox fighter and he too has a solid jab and straight right hand.  Quijano also puts more on his punches and although he doesn't have much power he does have heavier hands than Rodriguez.  This should be a pretty even fight and neither fighter will every fully take control.  However, it will be Quijano who comes away with the win by the way of razor thin unanimous decision.
