CBS Sports Quick Pick

Steve Claggett vs. Chris Van Heerden: In Saturday night's main event on CBS Sports Network Steve Claggett (23-3-1, 16 KO) will take on Chris Van Heerden (23-2-1, 12 KO).  The fight is scheduled to go 12 rounds in the welterweight division but no title will be on the line.  While both men have fought in the U.S. before the majority of their fights have come outside the country.  While neither fighter has an all that impressive resume you have to give the nod to Van Heerden for having the better one.  Claggett's best opponent to date was Konstantin Ponomarev, not exactly a household name.  Meanwhile Van Heerden has been in the ring with Errol Spence Jr., Ray Narh, and Matthew Hatton and while none of those fighters besides Spence are top level, they are all better than most of Claggett's foes.  Clagget is an orthodox fighter who likes to work behind a jab without much on it.  In addition to that he will throw a right hand without much conviction and he seems to push many of his punches.  Claggett usually fights from the pocket and while at times he shows decent movement, far too often he stands and trades.  Across the ring will be the southpaw Van Heerden.  Van Heerden has faster hands than Claggett and throws his punches with more conviction.  He has a decent jab but his right hook and left hand are better punches and he works the body nicely.  Like Claggett, Van Heerden isn't opposed to standing in the pocket and trading punches which could make for a fun fight between the two.  If this is a toe-to-toe fight the faster hands of Van Heerden should be the difference and he will come away with the split decision win.
