UniMas Quick Pick

Juan Diaz vs. Fernando Garcia: In what will amount to his second comeback, Juan Diaz (40-4, 19 KO) returns to the ring tonight on UniMas.  "Mile High" Mike Alvarado will also appear on the card following his one-sided loss to Brandon Rios but he is only scheduled to go eight rounds.  Diaz, who headlines the card, will be taking on Fernando Garcia (30-7-2, 18 KO) in a 10-round bout in the wide open lightweight division.  Diaz retired in 2010 following a second loss to Juan Manuel Marquez but came back in 2013 and since his return he has gone 5-0 with two knockouts.  Just when it seemed Diaz was on the verge of another title shot injuries struck and he had to sit out all of 2015.  Diaz who goes by the nickname "Baby Bull" doesn't have much power but he is a very busy fighter who throws a high volume of punches.  Diaz loves to go toe-to-toe and he bangs a nice left hook to the body often.  "Baby Bull" also has a strong right hand and his relentless style is what made him successful in the ring and with fans.  Uppercuts are also part of Diaz's attack and it was an uppercut from Juan Manuel Marquez that knocked Diaz out, the only time in his career he has been stopped.  As for Garcia there is no tape of him online which is never a good sign.  One thing to take note of is the fact that he has a fairly week resume.  The two biggest names he has fought recently are Sharif Bogere who knocked him out in the fifth round and Jose Felix Jr. who easily dispatched of him in the opening frame.  Also, Garcia has been knocked out five times in his seven career losses so defense is not a strong part of his game.  This fight is really all about how fresh Diaz looks.  The lightweight division is wide open so if he looks good in a few fights he could easily find himself fighting for the title again.  When Garcia gets knocked out it usually happens early and Diaz is not the type of fighter who regularly records early stoppages.  Instead Diaz will control the action and push the pace on his way to a wide unanimous decision victory.
