UniMas Quick Pick

Casey Ramos vs. Jonathan Perez: Saturday will be a very busy night for boxing fans who will have to be quick with the remote, or record fights in order to catch them all.  UniMas will be one of the networks airing a fight card Saturday night and the main event of that card will be a bout between Casey Ramos (21-0, 5 KO) and Jonathan Perez (35-13, 28 KO).  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the often forgotten about lightweight division.  At 26 years old Ramos is a young fighter still on the rise, he fights out of the orthodox stance and has yet to be tested but a top tier fighter.  Ramos isn't a big puncher but he has gotten away with that lack of power thus far.  The young fighter has a nice jab and an accurate left hook even if it doesn't land with much pop.  He also has a looping right hand that isn't that effective, but gets better as he straightens it out.  Defensively Ramos moves pretty well and has only been down once in his career and in that fight he got off the canvas to win.  Across the ring will be the much more experienced Perez.  Perez is only three years older than Ramos but has 27 more fights and has fought the better opposition.  In his career Perez has fought Abner Mares, Yenifel Vicente, Cristian Mijares, and Gamalier Rodriguez, all better opponents than anyone Ramos has faced.  Perez hasn't fared very well in those fights though, beating Rodriguez but losing to everyone else by the way of early knockout.  Perez is also an orthodox fighter and while his fists aren't made of cinder blocks her certainly hits harder than Ramos does.  While Perez has a nice jab and straight right hand those punches are better from the outside but he likes to get inside and rough things up.  Also, although it probably won't matter against Ramos, Perez has been knocked out 10 times in 13 losses so his chin is far from good.  Perez has won two fights in a row but that comes after he lost four in a row and against Ramos his winning streak will end as Ramos will win the fight via unanimous decision.
