ShoBox: The New Generation Quick Pick

Prograis looks to keep his perfect record intact
Regis Prograis vs. Aaron Herrera: This Friday Showtime will bring fans another edition of ShoBox: The New Generation.  While these cards are usually fun many fans have to be longing for the days of regular fights televised on Friday nights on ESPN.  On this edition of  ShoBox: The New Generation highly thought of prospect Regis Prograis (16-0, 13 KO) will be taking on Aaron Herrera (29-4-1, 18 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division, one of the deepest in boxing.  Prograis is a 27-year-old southpaw who has shown good power although he has yet to face any name opponents.  However, in recent fights Prograis has taken on other prospects with zero losses to their names and has looked impressive.  Prograis is a calm fighter with a nice jab and along with that also carries a quick straight left hand that can do damage.  In edition to those weapons Prograis also has a solid left hook and what makes him look like a contender going forward is the fact that he fights well from the outside or in close.  As for Herrera, he is an orthodox fighter coming off a loss to another undefeated prospect.  While Herrera has also shown a solid jab he doesn't have the same type of calmness that Prograis shows and instead fights with an almost nervous energy.  Besides his jab Herrera also has a left hook although he doesn't let loose with his power punches very often and at times seems content flashing his jab from the outside.  Prograis is on the verge of going from prospect to contender and if he really impresses on Friday night he could make that leap.  Whether or not Prograis registers a knockout really depends on Herrera opening up or playing it safe.  It should be clear very early that Prograis is the better fighter so Herrera will play it safe and Prograis will have to settle for the wide unanimous decision win.
