Weekend Wrap-Up

  • Last week's action started with a PBC card on Fox Sports 1.  That card was headlined by a fight between Alexis Santiago and Erik Ruiz.  The fight was never really in question as the 25-year-old Santiago controlled the pace and was able to score a wide unanimous decision win.Things continued on Friday night when Showtime aired another edition of ShoBox: The New Generation.

  • The main event of that card featured two unbeaten fighters in Adam Lopez and Mario Munoz.  One fighters "0" had to go and unfortunately for Munoz it was his.  The fight was fairly competitive but by the end it was clear that Lopez had done enough to win and the judges agreed, giving him the unanimous decision victory.

  • CBS Sports which doesn't air fights often did last week.  The main event of their card was a bout between John Vera and Ayi Bruce.  Vera came into the fight unbeaten and untested while Bruce had faced a litany of top prospects, usually losing those fights.  From the very start it was clear that Bruce would just be playing the role of opponent and Vera went to work quickly dispatching him with a third round stoppage that kept his perfect record intact.

  • Also fighting last week was top prospect Jessie Magdaleno.  Magdaleno fought Rey Perez in the main event of a UniMas card that wasn't much more than a showcase, or stay busy fight for the young pugilist.  Magdaleno ate a few punches but controlled the action before knocking Perez out with a perfectly placed left hand to the body, keeping his record perfect and his title as top prospect intact.
