Perez's youth could play a role in this fight |
Michael
Perez vs. Martin Honorio: This Friday on Estrella
TV New Jersey prospect Michael Perez (23-1-2, 11 KO) will take on Martin
Honorio (33-9-1, 16 KO). The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the
junior welterweight division and youth could play a role in the fight.
Perez is 26 years old which makes him 10 years younger than the veteran
Honorio. Experience is on Honorio's side though and he has fought some
talented fighters including Robert Guerrero, John Molina Jr., Argenis Mendez,
and Antonio Orozco. Meanwhile Perez hasn't fought anyone that wouldn't
have the title prospect or journeyman attached to their name, outside of a 2012
fight with Omar Figueroa Jr. which accounts for his only career loss.
Perez is an orthodox boxer with a nice jab. With that jab Perez has
also shown a short left hook and a wild right hand that doesn't land often but
is dangerous. Perez also does a nice job of banging the body when he is
on the inside and he finds most of his success from in close. Honorio
will need to have a throwback night on Friday because he has not been great
lately. He is 5-5 in his last 10 fights and 2-3 in his last five and none
of his recent wins have come against top fighters. Honorio is also an
orthodox fighter and he throws a jab without much emphasis on it. The
veteran fighter doesn't have very fast hands and fights better from the inside
where he can throw left hooks and crooked right hands. Neither of these
fighters have much power and while both have been knocked out this fight should
make it to the final bell. It could be a fun scrap considering that both
men do their best work in close but the youth of Perez coupled with his quicker
hands will be the difference and he will get the unanimous decision win.
