CBS Sports Quick Pick

Vera will look to remain unbeaten
John Vera vs. Ayi Bruce: In the main event of Friday's CBS Sports main event will be the undefeated John Vera (12-0, 7 KO).  Vera will be taking on Ayi Bruce (23-12, 15 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 10 rounds in the middleweight division.  While Bruce's record is far from impressive he has always faced talented fighters and his losses are to the likes of Gabriel Rosado, Ishe Smith, Hugo Centeno Jr., Glenn Tapia, and Erickson Lubin.  On Friday Vera hopes to add his name to the list of unbeaten prospects who have victories over Bruce.  Vera is a 27-year-old southpaw with a very busy jab.  That jab is a good weapon for Vera who also has a solid right hook.  He still remains somewhat of an unknown commodity though because he hasn't faced any competition worth noting and there is very little tape of him online.  Also, his opponents have a combined record of 37-99-3 so he has never been tested thus far in his career.  Bruce, an orthodox fighter from Ghana has not done well since he started fighting in the states and in his last 10 fights he has gone 3-7 and has been knocked out four times and in his 12 career losses eight have come by the way of knockout.  In his earlier days Bruce had a pretty solid short left hook to the body and a decent straight right hand but lately he has looked like a shell of himself.  This will be Vera's first 10-round fight and he has never gone more than seven so far in his career but even that shouldn't stop him from beating Bruce by the way of unanimous decision.
