ShoBox: The New Generation Quick Pick

Frank Galarza vs. Jarrett Hurd: Originally Saturday's Showtime card was supposed to be a title fight between Gary Russell Jr. and Oscar Escandon but an injury to Russell has scrapped that match.  Instead Showtime will air a ShoBox: The New Generation card.  The main event of that card will now be a bout between Frank Galarza (17-2, 11 KO) and Jarrett Hurd (16-0, 10 KO) that is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior middleweight division.  Galarza is an orthodox fighter out of Brooklyn who has a nice win over John Thompson last year.  Galarza has a pretty good jab but his straight right hand is a better weapon but he tends to rely on his reflexes too much and will leave his hands low and get caught upstairs.  With his stiff straight right hand Galarza also has a dangerous left hook and that is the punch he ended Thompson's night with.  Hurd is an orthodox fighter who goes by the nickname "Swift."  He definitely moves well in the ring but he always has his hands down low which could be dangerous against Galarza.  Hurd does a nice job of banging to the body but when he throws his own punches he doesn't worry enough about return fire.  Also, Hurd is from Maryland, not exactly a hotbed of boxing so he probably doesn't get great sparring and he has fought a lot of sub par opponents.  Galarza might want to take Hurd to the deep waters because he has never gone passed seven rounds.  While Hurd is much slicker than Galarza, it is Galarza who has fought the better opponents and it will be Galarza who wins this fight by the way of 9th round stoppage.
