Jeffrey Fontanez vs. Marvin Quintero: So far Golden Boy Promotions series, which they are calling L.A. Fight Club has been a big success.  The series doesn't feature established stars or big names, instead it focuses on young prospect hungry to make a name for themselves and that has led to some action packed fights.  Hopefully Friday is no different when Jeffrey Fontanez (16-1, 12 KO) takes on Marvin Quintero (27-6, 23 KO) in a battle of Puerto Rico vs. Mexico.  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the lightweight division but both pugilists have good power and sketchy chins so the fight could be over well before the final bell sounds.  Fontanez, who stands at 5-foot 10-inches tall, is massive for a lightweight but he doesn't use that height to his advantage.  He doesn't stay tall and let his long arms allow him stay on the outside where he could land jabs and straight right hands out of the orthodox stance.  Instead he crouches low and likes to mix things up on the inside.  While Fontanez does have a solid jab and straight right hand he doesn't use them enough and instead likes to throw his power punches.  Fontanez does have a strong left hook but its a looping punch that takes awhile to reach its target.  However, the young Puerto Rican fighter does do a nice job of attacking the body but because of his questionable chin he shouldn't fight from the pocket as often as he does.  Fontanez was down three times against Gilberto Gonzalez only two fights ago, and while he did come back to score a 1st round knockout in his latest bout, that win came against a 15-9-1 fighter.  Quintero has also had his struggles as of late and is 2-3 in his last five fights.  However, Quintero has had some bad luck in two of those fights when he was forced to quit do to injuries and Rustam Nugaev and Jose A. Gonzalez.  Quintero fights out of the southpaw stance and like Fontanez has very good power.  Quintero likes to fight from the pocket and will walk through fire to get there because he doesn't often use his jab to work his way in.  While the Mexican fighter has better footwork than Fontanez, he doesn't always use it and will often just stand and trade punches.  The right hook from Quintero is a dangerous punch, as is his wild left hand.  This fight will really come down to intelligence.  If Fontanez can use his height advantage and avoid a firefight he should be able to win.  However, if Quintero uses his footwork and experience he could get Fontanez is some trouble.  The fight should be a good one, like many other L.A. Fight Club bouts before it, but it will be Fontanez who gets the win by the way of split decision.
