Fox Deportes Quick Pick

Abraham Lopez vs. Jorge Diaz: While Thursday's Fox Deportes card might not feature the biggest names, it is hard to complain about some mid-week boxing action.  The main event of that card will be a 10-round bout in the featherweight division between the unbeaten Abraham Lopez (18-0-1, 13 KO) and the usually exciting Jorge Diaz (18-3-1, 10 KO).  Lopez is an orthodox fighter who has a busy jab, and a quick left hook he looks to shoot off that jab.  The 27-year-old Lopez also does a nice job of banging to the body and is best described as a "boxer-puncher."  The straight right hand is another good weapon for Lopez who has already had two fights in 2015 after being out of the ring since 2012.  That first fight back for Lopez marks the only blemish on his record, a draw, and he blames that draw on ring rust.  While Lopez usually fights better from the outside, and moves well, he can do damage at close range with uppercuts.  Diaz is also an orthodox fighter and he is not one who takes very many backwards steps.  Diaz likes to fight on the inside where he lets his overhand right go but he will also throw that punch straight behind the jab.  Diaz also has a solid left hook but he doesn't use that as much as his right.  Lately things have not gone very well for Diaz who has a record of 2-2-1 in his last five fights and he has been out of the ring for nearly a year.  This fight is all about distance, who can control it, and who can close it.  Lopez has the heavier hands but he also uses his feet more than Diaz does.  Diaz usually likes to get in the pocket and trade punches.  If Lopez can use his jab and superior skills to keep Diaz on the outside he should have himself a fairly easy night.  However, if Diaz can stay in the pocket where Lopez isn't as effective from he could surprise some people.  Between the two Lopez is the better fighter with the higher ceiling.  This fight won't be a total blowout but it won't be far off either as Lopez will get the unanimous decision win.
