HBO Latino Quick Pick

Mauricio Herrera vs. Hank Lundy: On Saturday night HBO Latino will bring boxing fans some interesting fights.  The main event of that card will feature Mauricio Herrera (21-5, 7 KO) and Hank Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KO) who are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division.  Herrera has been one of the most hard luck boxers in the sport recently, especially in 2014.  That year saw Herrera take on the number one junior welterweight in the world in Danny Garcia on win, at least in the eyes of the fans.  However, when the scored were announced it was Garcia who somehow got the victory.  Then later that year Herrera took on prospect Jose Benavidez Jr. and again looked like he won, only to be robbed by the judges.  A year that should have seen Herrera go 3-0 ended up being a disappointing 1-2 year for him.  Herrera is an orthodox fighter, who despite having absolutely no power has put together a nice career.  Herrera likes to counter punch and he shows a good jab.  Perhaps the best aspect of Herrera's game is his dedication to the body.  Herrera bangs to the body early and often but unfortunately judges often don't take notice of good body work.  He especially likes to work his left hook on the inside where he feels safe because he has one of the best chins in boxing and has never been down as a pro.  As for Lundy, he is a southpaw so a clash of heads could end up playing a role in this bout.  One of Lundy's best weapons is his jab and he does a nice job of controlling the distance with that punch.  While his hands aren't the fastest, Lundy can surprise opponents with his short right hook.  While Lundy's defense is good it isn't at the same level as Herrera's and that could be the difference in this fight.  This bout may not be getting much attention but it should be a great scrap between two skilled veterans looking to stay near the top level.  Lundy will give a good account of himself but the body work of Herrera will win him the fight by the way of majority decision.
