Fox Deportes Quick Pick

Gonzalez hasn't lost a fight since 2012
Gilberto Gonzalez vs. Hevinson Herrera: Thursday night Fox Deportes brings fans a fight that may not feature any big names but it should be fun nonetheless.  That is because both Gilberto Gonzalez (24-3, 20 KO) and Hevinson Herrera (18-10-1, 12 KO) have good power.  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division, which happens to be one of the best in boxing.  Gonzalez is an orthodox fighter who is tall for the welterweight division and he uses that height well.  Gonzalez has a busy jab and a very stiff straight right hand.  Along with that straight right hand Gonzalez also has a good left hook to the body and he likes to play the role of aggressor.  However, his best punch is probably his very short and very powerful overhand right.  Despite being the underdog in this fight Herrera does have the best name on his resume.  That name is Diego Magdaleno, who Herrera fought in 2014.  Unfortunately for Herrera he was knocked out in the 3rd round of that fight.  Herrera is an orthodox fighter who flashes a solid jab and straight right hand combination.  The underdog Herrera also has a left hook he likes to use but that is a wild punch.  What should make this fight so fun is the fact that both pugilists have bad chins.  Gonzalez has three losses to his name and two of them have come by the way of knockout.  Meanwhile, Herrera has 10 career losses and six of those have been of the knockout variety.  This is a fight where whoever lands the power punch first might win.  Against Magdaleno, Herrera was battered with overhand rights and that was ultimately the punch that finished him.  Gonzalez has a very good overhand right and it comes in short and quick.  That punch will win Gonzalez this fight when he stops Herrera in the 8th round.
