Friday Night Fights Quick Pick

Amir Mansour vs. Joey Dawejko: When heavyweight Amir Mansour (21-1, 16 KO) enters the ring good action usually follows.  This Friday on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights Mansour will wage a 10-round battle against Joey Dawejko (14-3-2, 7 KO) a man 18 years his junior.  At 42 years old Mansour might be an afterthought for most fans but he is a fringe contender who has good power in both hands.  Mansour is a southpaw who is always in excellent physical condition and he likes to fight behind a good jab.  Mansour has an awkward style and will often leap in with his punches, but when those punches connect it is dangerous.  Mansour's right hook does a ton of damage and his big left hand can end a fight.  Mansour's only career loss came against the smaller Steve "USS" Cunningham who Mansour dropped twice before being dropped himself in the 10th round and losing a close decision.  As for Dawejko he is riding a streak of four consecutive 1st round knockouts.  Dawejko's biggest win came in 2014 over Derric Rossy but he also has a loss to rising prospect Charles Martin.  While Dawejko's recent resume may look impressive three of his four 1st round knockouts came against fighters with losing records.  Dawejko may find himself in trouble in this fight if it goes deep, he has never gone 10 rounds and isn't in the best of shape.  Dawejko is an orthodox fighter with a heavy overhand right, he will also fire off a jab and likes to follow that up with a straight right hand, both neither punch is very effective.  Dawejko's best punch is definitely that overhand right, although he also carries a quality left hook.  This should be a fun heavyweight fight between to hungry fighters.  It should be a fairly close fight but Mansour will be stronger late and stop Dawejko in the 9th round.
