Fox Sports 1 Quick Pick

Mercito Gesta vs. Carlos Molina: As per usual, when a Floyd Mayweather fight hits Las Vegas other fight cards start popping up in the area.  One of those cards will be in Southern California on Fox Sports 1 this Thursday night.  The main event of that card is a junior welterweight bout between Mercito Gesta (28-1-1, 16 KO) and Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KO) scheduled to go 10 rounds.  Gesta is a good fighter from the Philippines whose only career loss came against the incredibly boring Miguel Vazquez.  The southpaw Gesta has a nice quick right hook to go along with a quality straight left hand.  Gesta doesn't jab much and usually fights with his hands very low.  While that can be dangerous it isn't for Gesta who is very good defensively.  As for Molina he is probably best known for being "the other" Carlos Molina, along with losing to Amir Khan and Adrien Broner.  Molina is coming off back-to-back losses and really needs a win if he wants to keep finding himself in televised fights.  "The other" Molina is an orthodox fighter without much power.  While Molina does have a solid jab and left hook he doesn't use his right hand often and also has a bad habit of simply following opponents around the ring, instead of cutting it off.  Certainly Filipino fans want to see a countrymen win a fight this weekend, and they may have to settle for Gesta who will win this fight by the way of unanimous decision.
