Weekend Wrap-Up

  • It was the rare weekend of boxing that provided little action and no notable fights on Saturday night.  The only fight that garnered any real attention was the bout between Alfonso Gomez and Yoshihiro Kamegai.  Gomez fought like an intelligent veteran and never let Kamegai turn the fight into the all out brawl he was looking for.  Gomez has never been able to beat A-level fighters in their primes and he won't do it now but he can get a lot of fighters a tough night.  As for Kamegai he comes to put on a show and fans certainly appreciate that which should land him on TV again soon.

  • Another notable fighter in action was Ronny Rios.  Rios was coming off of a knockout loss to Robinson Castellanos and needed to gain some confidence back against a game Sergio Frias.  Rios still has a ways to go and needs to tighten up his defense but overall it was a nice bounce back win for the young prizefighter.
