Telemundo Quick Picks

Alejandro Hernandez vs. Martin Casillas: It is weekends like this that make boxing fans say "some boxing is better than no boxing."  This weekend of boxing certainly won't be a great one considering there are no big name fights taking place.  Still, boxing fans need there fix and Friday night on Telemundo they can get it.  The main event of that Telemundo card will be a bout between Alejandro Hernandez (28-11-2, 15 KO) and Martin Casillas (15-4, 9 KO) which is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the bantamweight division.  Hernandez has certainly faced the tougher opposition and has been in the ring with Leo Santa Cruz and Omar Narvaez.  Hernandez is an orthodox fighter who loves to throw his left hook, even if it doesn't have much power on it.  Along with that left hook Hernandez has a decent jab he likes to stick to the body and a solid right hand.  Across the ring will be Casillas who likes to fight behind a decent jab.  Casillas does his best work with his right hand however, and has a nice straight right and uppercut.  While neither fighter is great defensively both have fairly good chins.  The two fighters have fifteen losses between them but only one loss by knockout.  Even though both have flaws defensively it is Casillas who is much worse.  Casillas takes a ton of punishment upstairs and just doesn't seem to get his hands back up after he throws his own punches.  The terrible defense of Casillas will be the difference in this fight and Hernandez will do enough to get the majority decision win.

Vicente Sandez vs. Thanasis Michaloudis: The co-feature of Friday's Telemundo card will be a 10 round heavyweight battle.  One of those heavyweights is Vicente Sandez (13-4, 9 KO).  Sandez is coming off of a knockout loss and has lost three times by the way of knockout which doesn't bode well for a heavyweight.  Also Sandez has never faced any top talent and most of his fights have come against opponents with only a handful of fights.  The other heavyweight in action will be Thanasis Michaloudis (8-0, 7 KO) who hails from Greece.  Not many fighters come from Greece so Michaloudis hasn't had many competitive fights and the first five fights of his career came against pugilists making their pro debut.  Michaloudis has shown some power though and has five 1st round knockouts.  Sandez will often fight off of his back foot and likes to pump his jab out of the orthodox stance.  The best punch for Sandez is his overhand right which can do damage if it lands clean.  As for Michaloudis little is know because there is only tape of him competing in kickboxing online.  He usually enters the ring in good shape and definitely has power that can end a fight, at least against sub par competition which Sandez certainly is.  This is a toss up fight and neither one of these heavyweights will ever be a threat to the title but in this fight the power of Michaloudis is a threat to Sandez and he will win the fight via 3rd round stoppage.
