CBS Sports Quick Pick

Derric Rossy vs. Akhror Muralimov: It isn't often that CBS Sports puts on a boxing card.  The CBS Corporation owns Showtime which usually airs plenty of boxing but this Saturday it will be CBS Sports that will give fans their boxing fix.  The main event of Saturday's card is a 10 round heavyweight bout between veteran Derric Rossy (29-9, 14 KO) and upstart Akhror Muralimov (16-0, 13 KO).  The orthodox Rossy is a former college football player who has had some high level fights but unfortunately for his career usually losses those step up fights.  His last fight was a loss to title contender Vyacheslav "Czar" Glazkov in a fight many people thought he won.  Rossy has a decent jab and a heavy right hand along with a solid left hook when he actually throws it.  Rossy is also fairly athletic which has helped him beat lesser fighters but his chin has let him down against higher quality fighters and he has been knocked out five times in his nine career losses.  That chin could be a problem against the heavy handed Muralimov but it might not be easy for the 5'11'' Muralimov to connect with the chin of 6'3'' Rossy.  Muralimov is also an orthodox fighter but he isn't a very busy one.  His jab is decent but his best punches are his left hook and stiff overhand right.  Although Muralimov has never been knocked out he does take his fair share of clean punches.  This fight could easily go either way.  If Muralimov can get inside on Rossy and rough him up there is a good chance he can knock him out.  However if Rossy can use his jab and height to keep the proper distance he should be able to outbox Muralimov.  Muralimov may have his moments but it will be Rossy who gets the win by the way of unanimous decision.
