Showtime Quick Pick

Redkach will look to keep his record perfect
Ivan Redkach vs. Yakubu Amidu: This Friday Showtime will provide fans with an interesting fight between Ivan Redkach (17-0, 13 KO) and Yakubu Amidu (21-5-2, 19 KO).  The bout is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the lightweight division and will be interesting because of where each fighter is in his respective career.  Redkach is 28 years old and a rising prospect looking to take the next step while Amidu is a tough veteran trying to get the title shot that could be his last.  Fans most recently saw Amidu lose a closse fight on the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights Boxcino Tournament.  Amidu's team took a risk putting their fighter on a card that was sure to raise his profile if he looked good but the opening round of that tournament was a 6 round fight and Amidu is a notoriously slow starter.  As for Redkach he has been on ShoBox: The New Generation a few times and looks to get another win on the program.  Redkach is a long armed southpaw who has a nice jab but doesn't use it nearly enough.  Redkach's best punches are of the crooked variety.  He is a power punch with a wild and heavy right hook and a left hand he throws from all over the place.  Defensively Redkach's isn't great and his footwork gets him in some trouble.  Still Redkach is on the rise and could cause some problems for fighters as he steps up in competition.  Amidu is an orthodox fighter who has plenty of power himself.  What makes Amidu successful is the fact that his punches are so compact.  He has a nice left hook that lands with force and a solid right hand.  The problem for Amidu, like Redkach, is on the defensive side of things.  Amidu will often leave himself open to be countered, especially when he throws his right hand.  This should be a sloppy fight but a fun one with both fighters standing and trading for long stretches.  While Amidu has faced a much higher level of competition in Juan Carlos Burgos and Ricky Burns to name a few it will be the younger Redkach who comes out victorious on Friday by the way of majority decision.
