Fox Sports 1 Quick Picks

Dusty Hernandez Harrison vs. Tommy Rainone: When Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports announced that they would enter the world of boxing many fans had high hopes for what they might accomplish.  Well things didn't start as quickly as many people thought and Roc Nation Sports has yet to make a huge impact.  Things might be changing though because the company started by rap mogul Jay-Z is set to put on their first fight card this Friday.  That card will be headlined by prospect Dusty Hernandez Harrison (24-0, 13 KO) as he takes on Tommy Rainone (22-5-1, 4 KO) a man who is 14 years his senior.  The two fighters are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the welterweight division and this will be a high profile card for Harrison to raise some awareness about himself.  Harrison is a good looking prospect who usually make fights rough on the inside and has even been called "dirty" by some.  The orthodox Harrison has fairly quick hands and will start fights gunning from the outside.  He has a nice jab and a strong right hand but those aren't his only weapons.  While Harrison doesn't have one punch knockout power he can put some pressure on opponents with his left hook and good body work on the inside.  While at times his defense looks sufficient later in fights he has faded and stayed on the inside too long where he has taken some punishment.  Still Harrison is only 20 years old and is being brought along at a nice pace.  As for Rainone he is basically a club fighter and the only thing he can really hang his hat on is the fact that he has never been knocked out.  Rainone is a fighter who moves a lot in the ring and likes to stay on the outside.  The southpaw doesn't have a very good jab and his best punch may be his straight left hand.  The problem for Rainone is that he tends to throw wide punches and he has absolutely no power.  Rainone may frustrate Harrison with his movement early on but eventually Harrison will find his target and win the fight by the way of unanimous decision.

Tureano Johnson vs. Alex Theran: It isn't often that two opponents have almost identical records but that will be the case on Friday when Tureano Johnson (17-1, 12 KO) takes on Alex Theran (17-1, 10 KO) in a 10 round middleweight bout.  Not only are their records almost identical but both fighters only loss has come by the way of knockout.  The difference in the fighters is their competition level.  While Theran has been facing average fighters at best, Johnson has faced some legitimate opponents, most notable Curtis Stevens who stopped Johnson in controversial fashion in the 10th round of their fight that Johnson appeared to be winning.  Johnson is a skilled orthodox fighter who has no problem banging it out on the inside.  While his jab is acceptable he will often come in behind nothing.  Johnson's left hook is wide but lands hard and his best punch is probably his overhand right.  While Johnson isn't a household name yet many fans are quickly realizing that he is very fun to watch.  Theran fights very differently than Johnson does.  For starters he is a southpaw who stays on the outside where he can land his quick jab and sharp straight left hand.  While Theran is the sharper puncher and younger he has also fought the lesser opposition and if Johnson controls the distance he should find success.  Johnson will make this fight a tough phone booth style bout and because of that he will come out ahead fairly easily with a unanimous decision victory.
