UniMas Quick Pick

Magdaleno looks to win his 4th fight in a row
Diego Magdaleno vs. Hevinson Herrera: Saturday's UniMas card will be headlined by 28 year old boxer Diego Magdaleno (26-1, 10 KO).  Magdaleno will be showcasing his skills against Hevinson Herrera (17-9-1, 11 KO) in a 10 round lightweight bout.  Magdaleno is a talented southpaw whose only career loss came against Roman "Rocky" Martinez.  Since that loss Magdaleno has won three straight fights and will look to make it four against Herrera.  At 28 years old it is time for Magdaleno is announce his presence as a serious contender or be relegated to tough opponent.  Magdaleno is a slick boxer with very fast hands and a high quality jab.  He also has a very quick right hook and his straight left hand finds its target more often than not.  Saturday should really just be a showcase fight for Magdaleno considering his opponent Herrera already has nine career losses, has been knocked out five times, and has never faced an elite opponent.  While Magdaleno isn't anywhere elite yet he does seem to have the skill set that could take him to that level.  As for Herrera who is an orthodox fighter with a decent jab and fast hands.  Herrera also goes to the body pretty well but defensively he is not good and Magdaleno should be able to take advantage.  This fight will be all Magdaleno from start to finish as he gets the win via 6th round stoppage.
