beIN Sports Espanol Quick Picks

Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Jorge Arce: With five notable fights tonight boxing fans might feel overwhelmed.  Let's simplify things, if you can only watch one fight tonight make sure it is the one between Jhonny Gonzalez (56-8, 47 KO) and Jorge Arce (64-7-2, 49 KO).  The two Mexican warriors who are both in their mid-30's are scheduled to go 12 rounds in the featherweight division for Gonzalez's WBC title that he took from Abner Mares in 2013 by 1st round knockout.  As every boxing fan is well aware, Mexican fighters take a lot of pride in this sport and fight very aggressively.  Both Gonzalez and Arce are nearing the end of their respective careers and both will be looking to provide fans with at least one more legendary fight.  The titleholder Gonzalez is an orthodox fighter who likes to pressure opponents.  While he doesn't have much of a jab that hasn't seemed to matter all that much.  Gonzalez also doesn't have the best straight right hand but it's his crooked punches that he finds the most success with.  The titleholder throws a nice right hand to the body but his money punch is his left hook, that is also the punch he knocked Mares out with.  Defensively Gonzalez isn't anywhere near elite and he has been knocked out three times and dropped a few more times than that.  However he does move around the ring better than one would expect which allows him to get into proper position to land his monster left hook.  As for Arce he is also an orthodox fighter who actually retired in 2012 following his brutal knockout loss to Nonito Donaire.  That retirement was short lived however and Arce has gone 3-0 with three knockouts since returning to the ring.  While Gonzalez is an aggressive fighter he has nothing on Arce he never seems to take a backwards step.  Arce also doesn't have the best jab but he does have a quick left hook that starts off looking like a jab until he turns it over at the last second.  Arce also goes well to the body but when he throws his straight right hand he tends to fall in which would leave him open to get tagged by a big Gonzalez left hook.  That is dangerous for Arce who isn't great defensively and who has been knocked out four times in his seven losses.  This fight should be an absolute war with both fighters standing in a phone booth and trading power punches so whoever shows the stiffer chin should come out on top.  The difference in the fight could also come down to who has more left at this point in their career and the answer to that question is Gonzalez who is a few years younger than Arce and who will win this fight by the way of 10th round stoppage.

Celestino Caballero vs. Adrian Estrella: The co-feature of tonight's beIN Sports Espanol card will feature two fighters at vastly different places in their careers.  Celestino Caballero (37-5, 24 KO) is 38 years old and at that age is nearing the end of the line in his boxing career.  His opponent Adrian Estrella (18-0, 17 KO) is only 22 years old and is a prospect hoping to make a name for himself.  The two pugilists are scheduled to go 12 rounds in the junior lightweight division.  While Caballero has much more experience and has faced the much higher level of opposition he will also be moving up in weight for this fight and at his advanced age there is no telling how that may affect him.  Caballero is an orthodox fighter who fights a lot like an amateur because he often just throws shoeshine punches to score points.  He also seems to push his punches and doesn't get his entire body into them.  At this point in his career the hand speed of Caballero is diminished and the fact that he keeps his hands pretty low tends to get him caught upstairs.  As for Estrella who is a young fighter who shows good patience in the ring.  He fights behind a pretty good jab and a nice straight right hand but the only punch Estrella seems to need is his left hook.  Estrella has serious one punch knockout power with his left hook and its the punch he ends most of his fights with.  While Caballero has faced fighters much better than Estrella he hasn't faced any with as much power in recent years.  This is a step up fight for Estrella and he should look impressive, winning this fight via 7th round knockout.
