Fox Sports 1 Quick Pick

Vasquez hopes to have boxing fans buzzing
Sammy Vasquez vs. James Stevenson: Along with their Thursday night card Fox Sports 1 will also be putting on a show on Friday night.  The Friday card will feature a fight headlined by Sammy Vasquez (15-0, 11 KO) and James Stevenson (21-0, 14 KO).  The two undefeated fighters will be doing battle for 10 rounds in the welterweight division.  While both pugilists have impressive records one of them is mostly smoke and mirrors.  That is Stevenson who has only faced four opponents who actually had winning records and they were only 5-1, 11-4, 2-0, and 1-0.  Vasquez hasn't been tested much himself but his opponents have been of a higher quality than those of Stevenson.  Vasquez has been impressive recently and his last six fights have ended with a knockout and in 2014 he is already 4-0 with four knockouts.  Vasquez is definitely a fighter to keep an eye on, the southpaw has fast hands and good power.  He throws a nice jab to the body and a strong right hook.  His biggest weapon is his left hand which he can drop opponents with to the body or upstairs and he does a nice job of cutting off the ring.  This fight should be all about Vasquez.  Stevenson hasn't gone 10 rounds since 2010 and that was the only 10 round bout of his career.  He is an orthodox fighter who is a boxer, puncher but he is already 31 years old and the future isn't looking very bright for him.  While Stevenson has never been dropped as a pro he has been fighting tomato cans so it isn't as if he has a great chin.  This will be a nice stage for Vasquez to get boxing fans buzzing about his career and he won't dissapoint, stopping Stevenson in the 7th round.
