Avila will look to remain unbeaten
Manuel Avila vs. Sergio Frias: For the first time in a few weeks boxing fans won't have any big fights to look forward to on Saturday night.  Luckily for them Friday night should more than make up for that with two separate cards in action.  One of those cards will be on Fox Sports 1 and will be headlined by the unbeaten 22 year old Manuel Avila (15-0, 6 KO).  Avila is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior featherweight division against Sergio Frias (15-3-2, 8 KO).  Avila has shown some flashes of talent in his young career and he fights nicely behind his jab which he throws a lot of out of his orthodox stance.  The best punch for Avila would be his left hook which he unleashes very quickly.  Along with that left hook he also has a nice uppercut with his right hand.  However with that talent Avila has also shown some vulnerability.  He has a wild right hand and tends to drop his left when he throws it.  That leaves him open to be countered and he usually takes his fair share of clean punches upstairs.  His opponent Frias also has some flaws of his own.  He does have long arms which allow him to land the jab from a safe distance and also his left hook.  The problem is that he doesn't have great hand speed so his punches come in long and slow out of the orthodox stance.  The best punch Frias has his his right hand which he really loads up on but again it doesn't have much speed behind it.  The big problem for Frias is that he fights with his hands fairly low which allows his opponent to land a lot of clean punches to the head.  While neither of these two pugilists have been fighting much quality opposition it is Avila who has faced tougher tests.  Frias has twenty career fights on his resume and only four of his opponents had winning records and all of those fights ended in a loss or draw for Frias.  While Avila may not be as good as his record indicates he should be good enough to beat Frias by the way of unanimous decision.
