BREAKING NEWS

Most fans expected Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 28 KO) to make his ring return against Juan Manuel Marquez for a fifth time or Ruslan Provodnikov who has been a longtime Pacquiao sparring partner.  Those plans when out the window when Marquez had no interest in the fight and Provodnikov lost his most recent bout to Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KO).  That win was the biggest of Algieri's career and also will now earn him a career high payday as he is set to take on Pacquiao on November 22nd in Macau, China.  It was a surprising choice for Pacquiao especially since his PPV numbers in his most recent fight against Timothy Bradley were less than spectacular.  Now Pacquiao will fight Algieri who outside of his controversial win over Provodnikov has no notable wins on his resume and has only fought on TV and handful of times.  However just because he isn't well known doesn't mean he won't pose a threat.  Algieri may not have much power but he is a slick boxer with a very good jab who can stay in the pocket and make his opponent miss.  Here is the big problem though Algieri will be moving up to the welterweight division after fighting most of his career at junior welterweight.  It is an interesting choice for Pacquiao picking a smaller fighter with little name recognition in a division packed full of stars.  Hopefully fans get a good competitive undercard but since Bob Arum is at the helm don't hold your breath.
