Fox Sports 1 Quick Pick

Gonzalez hopes to remain perfect as a pro
Emmanuel Gonzalez vs. Tevin Farmer: This weekend will be a very busy one for boxing with fight cards on Thursday, Friday, and of course the mega fight on Saturday.  While the fights most people are looking forward to will be on Saturday that doesn't mean they should forget about Thursday's card on Fox Sports 1.  That card will be headlined by the undefeated prospect Emmanuel Gonzalez (14-0, 7 KO) as he takes on Tevin Farmer (15-4-1, 3 KO) in a 10 round junior lightweight fight.  It is hard to tell just how good Gonzalez can be.  He hasn't fought anyone legit and the majority of his fights have only been scheduled for 4 rounds.  Furthermore he has only gone 8 rounds twice in his career while his opponent Farmer has gone 8 rounds seven times.  While Gonzalez is the fighter to watch out for in this bout he could also be the one who runs out of gas in the later rounds.  One thing Gonzalez does have going for him is his blazing hand speed.  He is an aggressive fighter who throws a ton of left hooks and crooked rights but doesn't always protect himself while he is throwing combinations.  However a counter knockout may not be something Gonzalez has to worry much about since his opponent Farmer only has three knockouts on his record.  Farmer is a southpaw who likes to work behind his jab and typically keeps his right hand very low.  The southpaw is coming off eight wins in a row but isn't the most skilled fighter out there.  Half of his losses have come from knockouts and he tends to take a lot of clean punches upstairs.  This fight should really only be interesting if Farmer can take Gonzalez into the deep rounds where his stamina can be tested.  I don't expect Farmer to really be able to test Gonzalez though and Gonzalez should land a lot of clean power punches on his way to unanimous decision win.
