It has been three years since he last stepped into the ring and today it became official, one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all-time, Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29 KO) has announced his retirement.  Holyfield who is 51 years old last fought in 2011 when he beat Brian Nielsen via 10th round TKO.  Holyfield may best be remembered for hanging around to long because he needed the money or from when Mike Tyson bit a part of his ear off in their 1997 bout but make no mistake about it, Holyfield was one of the best of his generation.  He has wins over Tyson, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Riddick Bowe, and Michael Moorer to name a few.  He began his career as a cruiserweight and after winning every belt available he moved up to heavyweight and did the same thing.  Holyfield has won WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight championships and for a time was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.  Holyfield will be remember fondly for his time in the ring as a guy who always showed up in shape and ready to fight.  It may have come a decade to late but Holyfield can now finally hang his gloves up.
