Fox Sports 1 Quick Pick

Rios will try to maintain his perfect record
Ronny Rios vs. Andrew Cancio: It isn't often that fans are treated to Monday night boxing but Fox Sports 1 will be doing them a favor this Monday by putting on a fight card.  The card will be headlined by the undefeated Ronny Rios (22-0, 10 KO) as he takes on Andrew Cancio (15-2-2, 11 KO) in a 10 round junior lightweight bout.  Both fighters have similar styles which should mean a good fight for the fans.  Cancio is the more aggressive of the two and likes to apply pressure on his opponents by constantly walking them down.  On the other hand Rios chooses to pick his spots when to attack and is fine just slipping punches.  Neither fighter is a very big puncher but both throw their punches with conviction.  Cancio's knockout numbers look good at first until you realize that the majority of his knockouts came very early in his career when he was fighting tomato cans.  Rios is not a power puncher by any means but he has fast hands and puts his punches together very well.  On top of that Rios is also a very accurate puncher which means he doesn't need to throw a lot of punches to do damage.  Defensively Rios is the better fighter.  Cancio moves a lot in the ring, especially his head but often times the movement is pointless.  Rios uses a high guard and doesn't just move around for the sake of movement.  He is a calculated fighter with very good head movement, especially on the inside.  Both of these men are good fighters and while Cancio has fought a higher level of competition it is Rios who has the sharper skills.  I think that the better defense of Rios will play a big role in a close fight and he will win by the way of split decision.
