UniMas Quick Pick

Magdaleno needs an impressive win
Diego Magdaleno vs. Jorge Pazos: Calling a fighter a "tomato can" in the sport of boxing is an insult.  It means that the fighter is severely outclassed and has no real chance of winning the fight.  While Jorge Pazos (14-6-1, 8 KO) isn't exactly a "tomato can" his Saturday fight against Diego Magdaleno (24-1, 9 KO) smells like a showcase fight and it will be Magdaleno being showcased.  The two men will square off on UniMas in a 10 round bout in the lightweight division.  Clearly Magdaleno is the better of the two fighters and he has fought the better competition, most notably when he lost a split decision to Roman "Rocky" Martinez.  Pazos' most notable fights came in his last three bouts when he took on Genesis Servania, Orlando Cruz, and Gamalier Rodriguez and he lost all three of those fights.  In fact Pazos has a record of 1-4 in his last five fights.  Pazos doesn't have the fastest hands and his punches are very wide.  Along with those offensive flaws Pazos is also not spectacular on defense, he has been knocked out twice and has been on the canvas numerous times.  While Magdaleno has been down he has never been stopped and Pazos probably won't be the first to do it.  Magdaleno doesn't have much power but he has good speed and is a very intelligent fighter.  His one noticeable flaw is that he tends to really reach with his left hand and it puts him out of position defensively.  This crowd should be pro Magdaleno and he should put on an impressive show for them.  Pazos will try to make this a sloppy fight on the inside but the superior skills of Magdaleno should be able to control the pace and distance and allow Magdaleno to win via unanimous decision.
