Maidana's win over Broner got him this fight
In recent years whoever is picked to fight pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather (45-0, 26 KO) earns a career payday.  Now fans know which fighter holds that winning lottery ticket to face Mayweather next, it will be the heavy hitting Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO).  The bout will take place May 3rd on Showtime PPV and will be a welterweight unification fight.  One aspect of the fight that is still up in the air is the venue.  According to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer the two possibilities are the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where Mayweather has been fighting for years and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.  Fans were asked to vote between Maidana and Amir Khan to decide who Mayweather would be fighting and while the poll on Mayweather's promotional website had Khan winning numerous other sites who ran polls had Maidana way ahead.  It looked like Khan would be a lock to get the fight, he even pulled out of December bout against Devon Alexander to ensure nothing would get in the way of his career payday.  However in December Maidana look very impressive beating Mayweather's "little brother" Adrien Broner, knocking him down twice on his way to a unanimous decision.  That performance got fans talking and is the reason Maidana was Mayweather's choice for May 3rd.
