Cotto vs. Martinez will be a massive event
It may not be the mega-fight casual fans were hoping for but it will have big time boxing fans glued to their televisions.  It was being talked about for months and it is now official that Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO) will be fighting Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO) on HBO PPV.  This will be a huge fight with two of the biggest names in the sport going head to head.  The fight is scheduled to go off on June 7th at Madison Square Garden.  That is a date Cotto usually fights on because it falls on the same weekend of New York City's annual Puerto Rican Day parade.  The fight will go 12 rounds in the middleweight division but it won't be the usual 160 pound weight limit.  Cotto who fights at 154 lbs. and Martinez who fights at 160 lbs. but has long said he feels more comfortable at 154 lbs. have agreed to a maximum weight of 159 lbs.  Cotto was riding a two fight losing streak before teaming up with trainer Freddie Roach and destroying Delvin Rodriguez in October.  Martinez is coming off a win over Martin Murray in April where he once again injured his right knee.  This will be a big fight for both men, especially Cotto who is looking to become the first ever Puerto Rican fighter to win world titles in four different weight classes.  The atmosphere will be absolutely electric for this one.
