UniMas Quick Pick

Rodriguez hasn't lost in 4 years
Gamalier Rodriguez vs. Aldimar Silva Santos: With this Saturday being jam packed with nine fights scheduled, American fight fans may overlook this Solo Boxeo card on the Spanish language channel UniMas.  But the network usually puts on solid cards and there is something about watching a fight broadcast in Spanish that just feels right.  The main event of that card will be a 10 round bout in the featherweight division between Gamalier Rodriguez (22-2-3, 15 KO) and Aldimar Silva Santos (19-5, 10 KO).  Rodriguez is a good, quick boxer who likes to control the pace of fights with his stiff jab and good head movement.  He is a patient fighter who doesn't mind using only his jab for the majority of a round until he sees an opportunity to land a fast combination.  Rodriguez also likes to fight from the outside where he can best use his fast hands.  He is solid defensively but does it without running from his opponent, something he is able to do because if his very good chin.  A good chin is something his opponent Santos doesn't have.  Of his five losses three of them have been by knockout and often in fights he tastes the canvas more than once.  The one thing Santos has in his favor is that he has more experience against higher level opposition.  He has fought Juan Manuel Lopez and top prospect Jesse Magdaleno and those fights could help him compete against Rodriguez.  In this fight it should become very clear very quickly whether or not Santos can give Rodriguez any problems.  Rodriguez doesn't have great power but if can catch Santos with a good power punch early he could send Santos into hiding and handle him pretty easily from there.  Santos does do some running in his fights but he tends to go straight back which is never a good idea, especially against a fighter with such good hand speed.  The real thing to watch out for in this fight is how good Rodriguez will look and if he can knockout Santos.  While Rodriguez doesn't have the one punch power to knockout Santos he does have the hand speed to land a barrage of punches and end the fight early.  I expect Rodriguez to win this from the opening bell and finish it with a 9th round stoppage.
Santos looks to survive Rodriguez
