Telemundo Quick Pick

Matthew Villanueva vs. Daniel Lozano: This Friday on Telemundo two undefeated fighters face off in a 12 round bout in the junior bantamweight division.  They may not carry the biggest names in the sport but they are young and talented so fans could be witnessing the birth of a future champion.  What makes this fight so tantalizing is the fact that both fighters have almost identical records.  Matthew Villanueva (10-0-1, 8 KO) is the older of the two but hasn't had many more fights than Daniel Lozano (11-0, 8 KO).  Usually when two fighters in the junior bantamweight step into the ring there is a good chance neither is a big puncher but both of the men in the ring Friday night have the ability to end fights early.  However besides their records and punching power not much about these two fighters is the same.  Villanueva has much better footwork which allows him to avoid punishment with intelligent ring movement.  He also loves to apply pressure but when his opponent gets comfortable and looks to trade that is when Villanueva enacts his foot movement.  Lozano isn't as concerned with his footowork.  Lozano also loves to apply pressure but he does it more stoically.  His ring movement isn't very good at all but he makes up for it with extremely fast reflexes.  Lozano often fights with his hands low because he moves his head so quickly that he doesn't take a lot of punishment.  This fight should be all action from start to finish and will probably come down to which fighter lands that one explosive punch.  Because Villanueva has slightly better defense I think he will come away with the victory as long as he can keep his distance from Lozano during the early rounds where Lozano is most dangerous.  If Villanueva can do that then he should win this fight via 12th round knockout.
