Fox Sports 1 Quick Pick

Charlo will look to stay undefeated
Jermell Charlo vs. Jose Angel Rodriguez: As if there wasn't enough boxing this past weekend Fox Sports 1 brings even more on Monday night.  The main even of that card will be a 10 round bout in the junior middleweight division between Jermell Charlo (21-0, 10 KO) and Jose Angel Rodriguez (17-2-1, 2 KO).  This fight isn't for fans of brawls because both fighters are slick boxers without a tremendous amount of power.  Charlo is a very athletic fighter with quick feet and lightning fast hands.  He focuses heavily on his defense and moves around the ring very well, setting up his great counter punches.  He usually doesn't press the action, instead allowing his opponent to attack him so he can surprise him with fast counter punches.  Although Charlo doesn't have heavy hands he can drop his man if he catches him with a counter punch he doesn't see coming.  If Charlo doesn't have heavy hands then Rodriguez's hands feel like feathers because he has absolutely no power.  Rodriguez is a southpaw who usually fights at middleweight but will be coming down one weight class for this fight.  At 34 years old that drop in weight may take a lot out of him and although he is an older fighter he has only been a professional for eight years.  He doesn't have a ton of experience against high level opposition so Charlo could be troublesome for him.  Rodriguez will also look to box in a similar fashion to Charlo so this fight will be all about the sweet science.  I expect the younger, more athletic Charlo to stay perfect and handle Rodriguez pretty easily on his way to a unanimous decision win.
At 34 years old is Rodriguez just a safe stepping stone?
