Kirkland is coming off a long layoff
December 7th will be a very big day for boxing fans.  Both HBO and Showtime will have competing cards with big name fighters.  The main event of HBO's card will be a fight between Guillermo Rigondeaux and Joseph Agbeko and now the undercard of a tripleheader is set.  James Kirkland (31-1, 27 KO) coming off a long layoff will be facing "Jersey Boy" Glen Tapia (20-0, 12 KO).  The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds at a catchweight of 156 pounds because Kirkland's team was concerned he would have trouble making 154 pounds after such a long layoff.  Kirkland is now working with SMS Promotions which is run by 50 Cent and has also split from trainer Ann Wolfe, who he seemed to work very well with, in favor of new trainer Bob Santos.  Also on that card will be a 10 round fight in the middleweight division when Matthew Macklin (29-5, 20 KO) takes on rising prospect Willie Nelson (21-1-1, 12 KO).  Macklin will look to get back on track after a brutal body shot from the hand of Gennady Golovkin knocked him out in June.
Can Macklin get back on track after a big KO loss?
