UniMas Quick Pick

Glen Tapia vs. Elco Garcia: Besides the two solid fights on HBO tonight there will also be some boxing on the Spanish language network UniMas.  The main event of the UniMas card will 10 round bout in the junior middleweight division.  It features Passaic, New Jersey native Glen Tapia (19-0, 11 KO) who is taking on tough Mexican veteran Elco Garcia (27-8, 13 KO).  Of the two fighters it is Garcia who has faced the tougher opponents, most notable Vernon Forest, a fight he lost.  Garcia is 42 years old compared to Tapia who is only 23 so age could play a huge role in this fight.  This will only be Tapia's second 10 round fight so he is still very green but he has big time power in both hands.  Tapia isn't the fastest fighter and his footwork is questionable at best but he is tough as nails and very strong.  One thing Tapia does well is move his head, which is good consider it sometimes looks as if his feet are stuck in the mud.  Then there is Garcia who has fast hands but they may have slowed with age.  Of Garcia's 8 losses 5 have come by the way of knockout which should have Tapia salivating.  Garcia will come to fight but Tapia will be to strong, to young, and to quick with his head movement.  I have a feeling that Garcia will spend the night trying to find Tapia, while Tapia sits down on his punches and lands some heavy shots to the body.  Tapia will win this fight via 8th round knockout.
