Telemundo Quick Pick

Vazquez Jr. wants a belt again
Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. vs. Guillermo Avila: This Friday on the Spanish language television network Telemundo there will be an interesting 12 round bout in the junior featherweight division between Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (22-3-1, 19 KO) and Guillermo Avila (11-0, 8 KO).  What makes this fight so interesting is the power of both fighters.  At one point Vazquez Jr. was one of the best fighters in his division but that was 5 fights ago before he lost to Jorge Arce, Nonito Donaire, and his last bout against Yasutaka Ishimoto.  Now Vazquez Jr. is just trying to work his way back into the conversation.  He is an aggressive fighter with a lot of power, and the impressive thing about his power is that he has the ability to knock an opponent out late in fights.  His opponent Avila is basically unknown in the U.S. and has never fought outside of his native Mexico.  Avila is also an aggressive fighter who always looks for the knockout, and usually gets them early in fights.  This fight might see both fighters standing toe to toe with each man trying to knock the other out but that wouldn't be smart for Vazquez Jr.  While Vazquez Jr. has more than enough power to go to war it would be more intelligent for him to use his fast footwork and movement to outbox the younger fighter.  If this is a phone booth fight then Avila has a great chance to get the win, however I expect Vazquez Jr. to realize he really needs this win if he wants to stay relevant in one of the most loaded division in boxing and because of that he will be cautious and smart.  Vazquez Jr. will move in land a power punch or strong combination then move to the outside and shift around the ring to frustrate Avila.  This fight plan should be very effective and allow Vazquez Jr. to win the fight via unanimous decision.
