Another day and more sad news for the boxing world. Referee Earl Morton has passed away today at the age of 58 after a tough battle against cancer. Morton was in the ring for a number of high profile fights including Sergio Martinez's stunning 2nd round knockout of Paul Williams. Morton was also the referee for the final two Gatti-Ward fights, the last one being the fight of the year. Morton was a good referee who never interfered to much with the ebb and flow of a fight. Morton counted out numerous fighters throughout his career and now he will be counted out by boxing's traditional standing 10-count.
