Friday Night Fights Quick Picks

Rustam Nugaev vs. Jose Hernandez: The main even for this week's Friday Night Fights card will be a 10 round bout in the lightweight division.  It will pit Rustam Nugaev (24-6-1, 14 KO) against Jose Hernandez (14-6-1, 6 KO) and should be a solid scrap.  Nugaev is in many ways you typical Russian fighter, he always comes forward and doesn't have elite defense.  What is strange about Nugaev is his fighting stance.  He keeps his hands somewhat low and wide and also throws wide looping punches.  Nugaev is coming off back-to-back knockout wins including a vicious knockout of highly touted Peruvian prospect Jonathan Maicelo.  Across the ring, Hernandez is coming off a TKO of Tony Luis in a fight where he looked good at times but not overly impressive.  He has a solid fighting stance and pretty good defense but he doesn't seem to do any one thing at an elite level.  This fight should provide good action and a lot of give and take.  I expect Nugaev to be the sharper fighter and come away with the win via unanimous decision.

Jose Pedraza vs. Gabriel Tolmajyan: The other fight this Friday will be quite an intriguing one.  It will be a 10 round fight in the junior lightweight division featuring up and coming Puerto Rican prospect Jose "Sniper" Pedraza (13-0, 9 KO) taking on slick Armenian Gabriel "Ghost" Tolmajyan (14-2-1, 3 KO).  And fans need not look past these fighters nicknames to figure out what style they will bring to the ring.  Pedraza is a come forward boxer, puncher who throws everything with bad intentions while Tolmajyan is a slick defensive fighter who looks to stick and move without being hit.  Pedraza is the younger fighter and the one with the higher upside who could be a top contender in his weight division soon.  This will be a good test to see if Pedraza can handle Tolmajyan and not get frustrated by his constant movement and attention to defense.  I think fans will get a surprisingly good fight with Pedraza getting the win via 8th round knockout.
